On 16 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs François-Philippe Champagne in Vilnius. The Foreign Ministers discussed bilateral cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, and security policy, the state of play in transatlantic relations, as well as the situation in Belarus and Ukraine.

Foreign ministers Linas Linkevičius of Lithuania, Edgars  Rinkēvičs of Latvia, Urmas Reinsalu of Estonia and François-Philippe Champagne of Canada met jointly today in Vilnius for the first time.

On 14 October, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Dalius Čekuolis participated in the European Humanities University’s (EHU) opening ceremony of the Academic Year 2020-2021. The Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanouskaya also attended the event.

On 12 October, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Albinas Zananavičius attended the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg, which focused on the situation in Russia and Belarus, issues related to Latin America and the Caribbean, Nagorno-Karabakh, and the Kyrgyz Republic. Ministers also discussed the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and the EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy 2020-2024.

On 6 October, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas attended a meeting with the State Secretaries of the Latvian, Estonian, and German Foreign Ministries in Riga. The meeting focused on the most important items on the European Union’s agenda, the eastern dimension of the European Neighborhood policy, the security situation in the region and in the South Caucasus, transatlantic ties, the EU-China cooperation, the fight against disinformation, and cyber security.

On 5 October 2020, Lithuania took the floor at the 45th session of the Human Rights Council in the general debate on technical assistance and capacity building. The Permanent Representative of Lithuania Ambassador Andrius Krivas expressed Lithuania’s support for the work of OHCHR in providing technical assistance to Georgia and commended Georgia’s close cooperation with the Office.

On 2 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and representatives from American Jewish Organisations discussed guidelines for cooperation between the U.S. and Lithuania, the perpetuation of historical memory, the fight against manifestations of anti-Semitism in the world and in Lithuania, the situation in Belarus, as well as issues related to international security and policy.
